Who can purchase the Compendle Video Arts solution?

The Compendle Video Arts solution is available to colleges, universities, private training organisations, and corporate institutions.

What is Compendle?

Compendle is an innovative and user-friendly approach to creating, organising and publishing courses online. It was designed to help professionals in the education and training sectors to manage all aspects of the learning process: from authoring e-learning topics and assessments to organising learning resources and publishing courses.

What is Video Arts?

Video Arts produce and distribute high quality digital learning to help put across learning messages in an entertaining and memorable way. They have become famous for intelligent, entertaining and straight-talking training for over 30 years.

What materials can I publish on my course?

Any digital materials that your students can view such as text files (PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), audio files (Podcasts, MP3, WAV), video files (Quicktime, AVI, MPEG), and websites. You can also add any e-learning resources you already have.

Who am I licensed to share published content with?

Compendle Video Arts users are licensed to share published content within their organisation or institution only.  Universities and colleges can only share published content with registered students.  Corporate organisations can only share published content with their employees.

Are my resources safe and secure?

Any resources that you have uploaded are stored in a fully secure location and can only be accessed by your account.

Is there anything to download or install?

Compendle is accessed through your browser so there is nothing to download or install. The only requirements are an up-to-date browser such as Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2 and Flash Player 9 which is a free standard browser plug-in. It is available here if you do not already have it.

How are the courses published in Compendle?

Compendle courses are published as a single zip file, packaged to SCORM and IMS packaging standards.

Is Compendle compatible with Moodle/Blackboard/WebCT etc?

Yes, Compendle packages your course in a zip format fully compatible with current online learning environments.

Can I publish my course on a CD-ROM?

No, the Video Arts materials are only licensed for delivery within your organisation pr institution.

Can I publish my course on the internet?

Yes, Compendle packages your course in a zip format which can be uploaded to an intranet or the internet.

Does Compendle work on a Mac?

Yes, Compendle will work as long as you have a current browser such as Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 2.

 

Videos

Who produces the programmes?

Video Arts is part of Tinopolis plc, the leading television and new media producer. All current productions of Video Arts content including e-learning productions are produced by Tinopolis.

Can I transfer existing video products to DVD or to a computer system?

No! Copying and lending is illegal. You cannot copy any Video Arts programmes for any reason. You can not lend, change format, rent, sell or give the programmes to anyone outside your organisation without the permission of the copyright holder.

Does John Cleese still work at Video Arts?

John Cleese along with Anthony Jay founded the company in 1972 with Who sold you this then? being the very first programme for Video Arts. In 1988 they sold the company. During those 16 years it wasn’t uncommon to find John in the office. However today he is not involved in the day to day running of Video Arts. The last programme that John Cleese featured in was back in 2001 — Can you spare a moment?

What is SCORM?

Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a collection of specifications that direct how e-learning is created, packaged and delivered to learners.

Which version of SCORM is Compendle conformant to?

Compendle uses the SCORM 1.2 tracking standard and IMS 1.1.3 content packaging standard.

What is IMS?

The IMS Global Learning Consortium is a global organisation which shapes the growth and impact of learning technology in the education and corporate sectors. IMS provides leadership in the learning industry through various means including the adoption of practice standards.

What is a Virtual Learning Environment/ Learning Management System?

A Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) or Learning Management System (LMS) is an online software system used by organisations to support teaching, training and learning. Examples of these include Blackboard, WebCT and Moodle.
