Compendle can be used by public sector organisations in various ways, whether as a gateway for learning resources in a repository or to transform old training resources.

National Library for Health - Storing learning resources

NHS logoThe National Library for Health (NLH) is a knowledge service committed to supporting the education and lifelong learning needs of all National Health Service staff in England and Wales.

The challenge

The NLH provides a large amount of information and cutting edge research to teaching hospitals, medical students, NHS professionals and those involved in the care of others. In order to provide a slick and efficient service, the NLH required a simple way to catalogue and store all its learning resources.

Due to the high volume of material, it was important to put a system in place which would make searching through the repository of information fast and hassle-free.

The solution

Compendle has been integrated with the NLH e-learning repository as a gateway to learning resources. People seeking health-related knowledge can now log in and search the repository for the information they need.

They can also gather resources in their personal resource pool and use them to build custom courses, tailor made for a particular purpose, group or individual. Once a course has been built, Compendle allows users to publish it as a SCORM conformant e-learning package.

Leeds City Council - Creating training resources

Leeds City Council logoLeeds is a lively city, with more than 750,000 people living within the city boundaries. Leeds City Council caters for the city, providing over 500 services for the people of Leeds.

The challenge

Leeds City Council wanted to supply training to their staff in the wake of a major transition to a new computer system. They saw this challenge as an opportunity to embrace a unique e-learning environment and as an alternative way to provide training.

To meet the requirements of the council, MyKnowledgeMap put in a very straightforward VLE to allow the training material to be distributed to the learners, and then loaded on Compendle to do the rest.

The solution

Compendle was used to take material from various existing PowerPoint presentations to generate the required e-learning training courses. The assessment tool was used to create quizzes where necessary, to ensure that the learners had understood the information.

Council employees now have access to all their resources in one place, something that was not available to them when using their old intranet. Everyone has the flexibility to create the type of training courses they need for specific purposes. And, because it is so simple to produce and manage the e-learning, anyone at any level is able to use the system.

Currently, there are 880 learners spread over several departments (which of course is no issue for Compendle) using a new course, a 'Guide to Financial Management for budget holders and service managers'.
