Compendle can be implemented campus-wide to completely transform the way e-learning is created, shared and distributed.
ALPS Mobile Assessment - Creating assessment packages
The ALPS project involves supporting Health and Social Care students during their work-based practice by utilising mobile technology. The ALPS partners are the Health and Social Care faculties of Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds Metropolitan and York St John Universities, as well as the NHS Yorkshire and the Humber. The other bodies involved are T-Mobile, ecommnet and MyKnowledgeMap.
The challenge
Assessing students can often be a chore for tutors, especially when their students are on work placements. The five universities involved in the ALPS project were using different VLEs, however they all required access to the same template assessment package.
The service platform created for the ALPS project allowed tutors to send assessments and supporting materials to mobile devices which the students use while on work-based practice. ALPS asked MyKnowledgeMap to provide a tool which would allow the tutors to create and package the assessments for delivery to the devices.
The solution
Compendle was the logical choice for the ALPS project as it works seamlessly with Moodle, Blackboard and other learning environments. Tutors across all five institutions could create tailor-made assessments using a wide range of question types including multiple choice, fill in the gaps, and free text questions. The assessments could then be uploaded to Compendle and packaged with supporting materials such as additional instructions or extra reading. The students could then complete the assessments whilst at work and submit their answers for marking and feedback.
Foundation Degree Forward - Customising e-learning
Foundation Degree Forward (FDF) is a national body that supports the development and validation of high quality work-based Foundation degrees.
The challenge
Foundation Degree Forward decided to offer a Foundation Degree in Retail. The degree would be piloted by retail giant Tesco and needed to be suitable for both experienced retail professionals and new entrants to the sector.
MyKnowledgeMap was the technical developer for the project and set out to create a combination of e-learning and online support for the unique programme. It was important that the e-learning could be rebranded by Tesco and other organisations who might want to offer the degree in the future.
The solution
The e-learning provided by MyKnowledgeMap was customisable, and the individual organisations involved in offering the degree were able to use Compendle to rebrand the e-learning. Tesco could use their own branding, including their logo and company colours. They could also replace standard images with ones more relevant to their employees and add extra content.
